What 30 Years of Horses Have Taught Me About Healing, Power & Presence

June162025

This week didn’t end quite as expected.
Another hospital visit. Another check-up and clean of the bite I received from a horse a few days ago.

And while the physical healing has been remarkable,
it’s the
inner reflection that’s left the biggest mark.

So I found myself asking:
What have horses really taught me over the last 30 years?

Not just about riding.
But about
living.

Here’s what came through, as clearly as if they whispered it right into my chest:

🐴 Horses taught me to embrace my softness in a world that constantly asks me to harden.

I used to think power came from grit, pushing, achieving.
But horses showed me a different kind of strength—
The kind that comes from being fully present, emotionally attuned, and brave enough to feel.

🐴 They taught me that stillness is not nothingness. It’s power.

Stillness is often misread as laziness or inaction.
But with horses, stillness is often when the most is
happening.
It's listening. Regulating. Trusting.
It’s power without noise.

🐴 Horses taught me to stay curious.

Rigid thinking doesn’t work in the saddle—or in life.
Every horse, every ride, every day is different.
They’ve taught me to drop assumptions, and replace them with curiosity.
To ask:
What’s really going on here?

🐴 They helped me remove the mask.

Horses don’t care if you’re successful.
They care if you’re
authentic.
They taught me to let go of performance and perfection,
and come back to the truth:
I already am enough.

🐴 They reminded me that there is no perfect body—only patterns.

Our bodies tell stories.
And horses feel every chapter.
They’ve taught me that instead of chasing “ideal form,”
we should be chasing understanding.

🐴 They showed me that connection always thrives where control ends.

Trying to dominate or micromanage a horse leads to tension.
True partnership comes when you
release the need to control—
And instead show up with trust, structure, and presence.

So today, I honour every horse that’s crossed my path—
from the quiet ones to the wild ones.
Each one has shaped the woman, coach, and human I’ve become.

I’m curious—
What have horses taught
you?

Drop a comment, message me, or share your story.
I’d love to hear it.
